About

Cheyenne is a primarily self-taught, multi-media artist who loves the wonder of nature and the beauty of life that can be found all around if you have the right eyes, and heart to see it.

Cheyenne grew up in a rural neighbourhood along the Winnipeg River, often playing outside and going on adventures with her dog and cat. Cheyenne grew up in close proximity to the flora and fauna of her home — including the wild plants and black bears — and to this day she is most at home in nature and with animals.

Although Cheyenne has many interests and sources of inspiration, her main sources of inspiration can be rendered down to the four seasons, flora, fauna, light, and colour. Cheyenne’s love for colour goes back to her childhood, manifesting in many ways including her collection of the colourful “My Little Pony” toys, and eyeshadow makeup palettes — which she barely ever used, but she loved to look at the colours in the palettes, bonus if they were glittery too!

Cheyenne’s approach to capturing her subjects is to gently convey their essence and energy in a way that is both realistic, and also a bit whimsical. Influenced by the mood of the specific moment when the subject was identified; those rare moments when you are present enough in your environment to find the magic.

Cheyenne specializes in painting with watercolour and gouache, but she also feels drawn to oil paints. She loves to sketch and draw, continually studying her favourite subjects and trying to truly see and understand them with the eyes of an artist.
